I think it has been about 10 years since I went hiking. I am going on my first trip next weekend after joining Atlanta outdoor club and I plan to make this a regular hobby again. I had most of my old gear still in storage but had to buy a few things. I still have my old pack but it is an external frame. I have noticed that just about all new packs are internal frames now. Does anyone use external frame packs anymore or is it considered too "old school"?
Are people gonna laugh at my old external frame pack?

I've seen a few people still using them. Internal frames or even frameless are just more popular these days.

Hi, I still use an external. I went on the Tenastee to Unicoi Gap hike in February and they called me retro. That's OK, I still love my external. I was hiking in the NH White Mountains and fell down the side of a rocky slope. If it weren't for the protection of my pack I would have hit my head, it could have been a real disaster. My pack took the brunt and I just ended up with some scrapes and bruises. I'll never go to internal. Hike on!
