Sailing Event again this year?

Postby ScubaSteve on Mon Feb 11, 2008 5:55 pm

Anyone interested in a Sailing event again this year with the sailing club? I'm a member and will broach the subject with the Cruising Captain if there is enough interest. I know the last two events were a big success with about 40 AOC members going out for a great day of sailing.

Also along the sailing lines, the sailing club is doing a lake cleanup one weekend at the end of this month? If you are interested in helping clean up the lake please let me know and I will update this post as soon as I have the firm dates of the cleanup.

I am all for us having the joint AOC and Sailing event. The last time we did it, it was a total blast. Thank you in advance for getting this together.

This was the first event I ever did with the AOC three years ago and it was so much fun! It still tops my list as one of my favorite trips. I'm definitely in if you post this.

this time, can i be in a boat that doesn't leave 1 hour late and take 45 minutes to get to the party spot? that'd be great...
eventually there will be something witty here, but, for now, just pretend that one of the most clever and/or amusing things you've ever read is written here instead of this.

Bribing the Cruising captain...

Postby ScubaSteve on Fri Feb 15, 2008 2:38 pm

Ben,

I'm sure if you bring the right libation to bribe the cruising captain you can get assigned to a fast boat :)

libations should not be an issue.

Sailing Event again this year?

Postby ScubaSteve on Mon Feb 25, 2008 2:54 pm

Due to the interested response, I will talk to the cruising captain at the next sailing club meeting to see about arranging a date in April/May for this event.

I'll keep you all posted on the event when I find out a definite date.

Sailing Event, Sailing Instruction, and Lake Cleanup

Postby ScubaSteve on Wed Feb 27, 2008 1:20 pm

Hello All,

Sailing Event:
There will definitely be a sailing event again this year from my discussion with some of the sailing club officers on Monday night.

Sailing Instruction:
They also want to open up their Learn to Sail classes to the AOC members. Please visit the Barefoot sailing web page at http://www.barefootsailing.org/ to see the original content and get the email link to sign-up for the classes but below is the content from the Commodore's News.

Barefoot has the Introduction to Sailing Course that is open to Barefoot Members -- at no cost. As with last years class, we will have a pre-sail on Saturday, April 5th. This is to give participants a background understanding for the course.

Our ground school will be held on April 8, 10, & 11, 2008. The "Graduation/Wing Fling, will take place after the On-the-Water day-sail on Sunday, April 13, 2008; we will be sailing on the boats of BFSC club members.

Ground school is held at Georgia Perimeter College - Dunwoody Campus (corner of Tilly Mill Road and Womack Road), Room NB1440, beginning at 7 p.m. each evening (until about 9:30 p.m.).

Contact Margaret Sherrod for more info.

Lake Cleanup:
They are still planning on doing a lake shore cleanup sometime in the next month or two and I will post that information when it becomes available. It would be nice if we could get a decent turnout since we usually have at least 40 people show up for the fun sailing day.

If you have any questions please either email me directly or post here on the forum.

Sailing Event, Sailing Instruction

Postby ScubaSteve on Wed Mar 26, 2008 2:59 pm

I have some more information about the upcoming sailing events and a clarification about the learn to sail event that someone asked me.

The Learn to Sail instruction that the BFSC will be hosting is coming up in April, there is a pre-instruction sail on 4/5 that is not required, classroom dates are 4/8, 4/10, 4/11 at Ga Perimeter college from 7pm-9:30pm, and on the water skills practice on 4/13 all day. You can see the details in the March newsletter at: http://www.barefootsailing.org/Document ... letter.pdf

In the flyer it details cost for the class as free for BFSC members and $15 for the book. AOC members would have to join the BFSC but membership is only $45 for a new member and you don't have to have a boat to enjoy sailing several times a month. I think this has to do with liability issues for the club doing training classes that the insurance requires participants to be members. If anyone is interested in taking the classes please let me know and when you join please give them my name.

Upcoming sailing event!!!
The first AOC sailing event for the year with BFSC is going to be:
05/03/08 Celtic Crossing Aqualand Ship Store 10:00am
I will post this as an event on the AOC calendar as soon as I get the flyer from the BFSC with the details. The numbers might be more limited than the normal events we have had in the past but there will be more events later on this spring/summer.

Thanks,
Steven Peters

Any way to reschedule this so it does not conflict with Surf n Turf and Skydiving? I would think most of the interested parties would be attending one of those two events and therefore not available to sail... :(

Sailing event

Postby ScubaSteve on Thu Mar 27, 2008 11:03 am

This is a long scheduled event for the sailing club, they just decided to invite the AOC folks to come out for a really fun event. We will be having the regular sailing event later on in the spring/summer so don't worry if you can't make this one the people that don't get up early enough to sign up for Surf & Turf will be glad for something else to do.
