Try REI outlet or Sierra Trading Post. Get a 2-3 person, 4 season tent with the ability to sit upwards (height). I find it a nice creature comfort in rain and for general movement in the tent. Nice features are two entrances and a mesh top. Look for the ability to open windows too.

As a rule, your tent, pack and bag should be 10 pounds max.

For camping in the Southeast, you will not need more than a 3 season tent. 4 season tents are more expensive, heavier, and geared towards extreme conditions we simply do not have here. Personally, I backpack with a 1 man tent for the weight, but a lot of people prefer more space and go for the 2 man. If you are not sharing it, a 3 man is way too big for backpacking. It will just weigh you down. I would check out some non-REI brands as well, since the REI tents can be heavier. Campmor has some other options, and even Dick's sells the Eureka Solitaire, which is cheap and lightweight, though it is quite small. Three AOC women, including myself, maintain a gear blog in which I have reviewed this tent, in case you are interested. I have also hear rave reviews about some 2 man tents by Big Agnes, though they cost more than I would personally spend, and my current solo tent, which remains untested, is an REI Chrysalis from the REI Outlet.
