White Mountain Hut Trip on the AT

Postby jch on Sat Jan 03, 2009 11:49 pm

Just an idea I wanted to throw out to the club. I am thinking about leading a trip to the White Mountains and using there huts system. Each hut you stay at comes with dinner and breakfast. The huts are more like houses with bunkhouses. They are about a day hike apart from each other. Since I am not as familiar with the area I am thinking that for my trip I will be using REI as the outfitter to do this. It would run about 485 or so and then include airfare and personal expenses. This would be a D5 trip since this area is rugged and above the treeline sometimes. I am seeing who is interested. I can get a private trip with REI if I can get 9 other people.

I have hiked most of the peaks in the White Mtn range. This is some of the most beatiful hiking I have ever done. Do not really see a need in hiring an outfitter to hike this area unless you plan to do it in the winter. There is more than enough information out there to be able to do the research yourself. Mt. Washington Tuckerman ravine route is probably the most traveled route on the East Coast. Also if you do venture up there there is an awesome route with hours of Scrambling across Twin Bald Face Mtn.

What timeframe were you interested in heading up there?

Where in particular were you planning to fly into?

Any peaks you are really gearing to hit?

Any interest in doing any hiking outside Quebec City?
