I sent a note to the Event Coordinator~
But he's got extremely good timing. That night there is also an open house at the GA State Observatory http://joy.chara.gsu.edu/HLCO/
I've been a few times and it's like a local star party, there are usually several scopes out besides the university's 16" Meade that the public can observe. True, someone from the staff will pick the target, but the chance to see anything with a scope of such size is few and far between. The site is not that far from Charlie Elliot... 25 minute drive maybe.
Something to consider if you make the list... and even if you don't make the list and are still interested in the stars. Not a bad place for a date...lol
Also if you have a scope and want the perfect dark sky site (and are willing to drive an hour more East) check out http://www.deerlickgroup.com/
This is a True Astonomy community...very strict rules after sunset. This a private astonomy club; so having your own scrope is a must (or know someone who does), but it's one of the few places in GA where you have 360 dark skies- true dark... no big cities lights close enough to ruin the view. Plenty of room to pitch a tent, some electricity, and hot showers-
The website has some great links...
