"Our big announcement at this months meeting is our efforts to further support SUDS (Soldiers Undertaking Disabled Scuba). Matt and I have been working hard on getting our ducks in a row to host our First Annual Atlanta Scuba Divers Dive Fest. This will take place on October 11th at Dive Haven. www.divehaven.com It will be a Dive Skills Challenge where teams of two will compete in 5 different skills events which include a Buoyancy challenge, Navigation, Search and Rescue, Distress Diver and an Equipment Race. We will finish it all off with an underwater Pumpkin Carving Contest. We will be bringing in the local dive shops, other local dive clubs and corporate sponsors. Lunch will be provided, there will be a raffle and/or a silent auction and of course the prizes for teams that place will be awesome! Like I said Matt and I are still working on all the details so we will keep you guys posted as we get all the information put together. Right now our biggest challenge is trying to figure out all the logistics on supporting a non-profit while either establishing ourselves as a non-profit organization or without having to establish non-profit. If anyone out there is familiar with non-profits and wouldn't mind giving us some advice or pointing us in the right direction, please email either me or Matt. This has been our hold up and we are afraid if we can't get this worked out soon then we will have to postpone the event.
For those of you who are new or haven't heard us talking about SUDS and want more information go to www.sudsdiving.org.
ASD was the only dive club to help out with this program in the FL keys last month.
If this event gets held, I will be attending and participating.
